Where Material Becomes Presence

01
PERCEPTION

The Art of Revelation

The work is never entirely fixed. It shifts with light, viewpoint, and the viewer’s position. Technique gradually recedes until only a presence remains.

Leather as Language

In OGC’s work, leather is not simply a material. It is a language. Choosing a hide through which a face will emerge is not a stylistic device; it is the foundation of the practice. Each portrait begins as a quiet dialogue between two presences: a material that carries its own history and a gaze the artist seeks to bring back into view. Cut, assembled, and patiently brought into tension, the leather strips form a visual syntax in which every fragment has its own relief, grain, and relationship to light. No element is interchangeable. Each one sustains the delicate balance of the whole. The thickness of the leather strips gives the image a real, physical depth. Light catches the relief, carves out shadows and shifts perception with the viewer’s point of view. The work exists in a continuous movement between abstraction and figuration. What first appears to be an assembly becomes unmistakable. The portrait does not seem manufactured; it seems revealed. This encounter between skin, memory, and vision gives OGC’s work its singular force. More than a portrait, each piece creates the sensation of a living presence—one shaped as much by the material itself as by the viewer who discovers it.
